Denise Lewin-Harris

Denise Lewin-Harris ARAD, PDTD (RAD LONDON), B.PHIL. (Hons)

Denise trained at The Arts Educational School and at the Royal Ballet Upper School. She danced professionally in Europe, performing solos in Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, La Corsair, Nutcracker, and other major ballets, as well as various contemporary pieces. Musicals include West Side Story, Chicago, Cabaret, Evita, My Fair lady, Kiss Me Kate, Hello Dolly, and The Bird Cage.

Since attaining the Professional Dancer’s Teaching Diploma from The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) with distinction, Denise has taught at The Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts (London), freelance for the RAD and the Vienna State Opera Ballet School, and was tutor on the Dance for Children with Special Needs project at the RAD. Denise furthered her academic studies, gaining a diploma in anatomy and a B.Phil. (Hons) degree in Ballet and Contextual Studies from Durham University. She is a regular member of faculty for RAD summer schools worldwide.

In September 2004 Denise joined the vocational staff of Elmhurst School for Dance at their new site in Birmingham. The school offers pre-professional training to hand–picked, talented students from age 11 to 19, in five purpose- built studios. As well as teaching all aspects of classical dance, Denise is in charge of Elmhurst’s National Dance Programme.

The dance faculty, under the artistic leadership of Desmond Kelly, former Assistant Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet, consists of former professional dancers with international experience, who share with students their sound technique and extensive repertoire.
